Tewodros Tamrat is one of the founding members of AFRI Aviation Plc. and its Managing Partner. Tamrat is an experienced aviation law expert and industry analyst with combined aviation experience spanning over 25 years. His last corporate engagement was with the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) based in Nairobi, Kenya. Since 2001, Tamrat served the continental aviation organization as Director, Government, Corporate and Industry Affairs before he became the acting Secretary General of AFRAA in 2010.
As director, Tamrat’s responsibilities included studying and advising the association and its airline members on all aero-political and regulatory matters and follow-up developments taking place within and outside the continent, which may have an impact on the African airline industry. He also served as the Secretary to the Legal Committee of AFRAA, in which capacity he represents the association at various international and regional air transport committees. The position included engagements with the Yamoussoukro Decision
Monitoring Body, which functions under the auspices of the African Union (AU). Tewodros Tamrat was also a member of the Panel of Aviation Legal Experts of the AU and the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC). Before joining AFRAA, Tewodros served as the first Human Resource Director of the Sheraton Addis Hotel from 1995 – 2001. Prior to that, Tewodros Tamrat served in various capacities in the corporate and legal department of Ethiopian Airlines culminating in his appointment to the senior management position of General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
Tewodros Tamrat holds an LLB Degree and has extensive exposure to regional and international aviation fora and has participated in various aviation specific conferences, seminars and workshops.
